Gravure is a roll-to-roll printing process that uses an engraved or recessed image on a copper cylinder that revolves in a reservoir of gravure ink. A doctor blade wipes the ink off of the non-image areas, with the ink then transferred onto the substrate. Gravure printing is primarily used for long-run packaging, although it is also found in publication printing of catalogs and magazines.
